Our Community Impact
Healing and Justice Initiative
****UPDATE***We received this grant from the San Francisco DA's office to provide coaching to people released from state prison after they were resentenced. They never sent us a referral.
Worse, people who were eligible for resentencing are still sitting in prison today.
We can no longer wait for the system to pursue decarceration.
We are excited to pursue resentencing opportunities for people incarcerated in California's Women's Prisons under the California Racial Justice Act in collaboration with Unapologetically HERS. Stay tuned for more information....

RCS was proud to support the efforts of the Healing and Justice Initiative with sponsorship by SF Pretrial. We were contracted to provide coaching support for resentenced individuals while integrating restorative justice practices and decision-making throughout the SFDA. This process also would have expanded access to restorative justice practices to responsible, harmed persons and impacted family and community members to ensure access to tools needed to heal from interpersonal and systemic harm.

Our partnership with the Healing and Justice Initiative would have allow affected communities to begin to repair the harm that the criminal-legal system has caused to communities of color while working to fulfill the reentry goals of the California resentencing pilot program, modeled after the success of the Make It Right (MIR) Program.

Grant Administration and Fiscal Sponsorships

We provide fiscal sponsorships for community based projects. Our approach is low barrier, approachable and friendly. We also provide capacity building and leadership coaching for emerging nonprofits like our own. Some the projects we've supported include:

-
New Options for Wellness - RCS has supported with capacity building and fiscal sponsorship for grant prospecting.
-

Group Coaching

Beginning with former lifers and now extending to professionals and leaders in the social service sector, Life After Suitability Together (LAST) supports individuals found suitable and released back into the community. The group provides a place for former lifers to attend and discuss challenges faced after being in society for long periods while working directly with community members.
Individual Coaching for Grassroots Leaders

The Green Streets professional and leadership incubation program is working with a small third-generation LLC in San Francisco, challenging the bias and complexity of contracting with government agencies while working through the challenges of gentrification. This project focuses on supporting green businesses with recycling and zero-waste initiatives. Participants include a Southern California leader in nonprofit administration and small business development with lived experience of incarceration.
